Thanks.  I hadn't realized that "jed -batch" could be so useful.

Ah; I misunderstood how the default of emacs worked.  
I wouldn't have guessed this, but it makes sense...

Oh, maybe I'll do that someday.

I didn't even know there was a jed emulation(?); the quickref
documentation didn't mention it.
