One brief sentence will suffice:

    Before building jed from source, the SLang library
    MUST be built and installed from source.


A friendlier alternative would be:

(1) Let jed's configure detect the SLang library in /lib.

(2) Duplicate require.sl (1303 bytes) and glob.sl (2220 bytes)
    to the jed's library.


As for vague future needs, bridges are crossed when you reach them.
Look at what happened to the namespace parameter in the require 
function. After years and years, it is sooo heavely in use.
