Thanks, that seems to be the case.  Things can be so easy when one gets
pointed in the right direction. :-)

I've got
Jed Version: 0.99.18
S-Lang Version: 2.0.6

That was the newest version I could find on [1]; the one on [2] is even
older.  I guess there just aren't any newer Windows versions of jed
around ...

Well, I just figured that version control is a good thing and
downloaded version 1.7 of email.sl which has got the old-style '!if'
etc.  Together with older versions of other compontents (e.g.
bufutils.sl), this seems to work OK.

However, the other problem I mentioned before remains: Even if I start
wjed with "-f mail_mode", mail_mode is not activated (quotes are the
same color as other text).  I have to do Esc x mail_mode to activate it
every time.
