I'm not sure if it is related and if it's going to help anyhow, but I had some
similar experience some years ago with a PC, where I had to wait some seconds
after starting jed too. In my case I found out, that this always happened,
when my internet connection was gone. With internet, jed came up immediately.
As I only used local stuff (no NFS or the like) this felt strange. But I had
not the time to go further into it and probably cannot reproduce meanwhile.
