I was having the same problem (and more) with keystrokes not working.  I just
searched and found:

Gnome terminal does not allow Ctrl-Home...  I'm not sure what I'm going to do
since I am on Ubuntu (gnome terminal) too.  Looking at xjed and maybe another
terminal.
