What versions of jed are you using?  You can get this info using
   jed --version

This sounds to me like your /etc/hosts file may need tweaked.  jed
uses the hostname for a number of purposes such as file locking, etc.
What do your /etc/hosts and /etc/nsswitch.conf files look like?

You need to install the X11 development libraries.  On debian,
X11/Intrinsic.h is in the libxt-dev package.
