I had always assumed that this file was distributed with OpenVMS, but
I now see that it is not.  I will add it to the distribution.

It would be nice to know what versions of VMS have definitions for
these symbols.  The patch would look something like:

  #if !defined(VMS) || (__VMS_VER<60200000)
  typedef int uid_t;
  typedef int gid_t;
  #endif

assuming the symbols were introduced in 60200000.

What version of slang are you using with it?
