I would normally avoid that type of automatic operation and use an
explicit command instead.
Eg,
define begin_perl () {
bob();
insert("#!/usr/bin/perl -w\nuse strict;\n");
insert("\n# ( my $Script = $0 ) =~ s{^.*/}{};\n");
perl_mode();
}
add_completion("begin_perl");
With a tiny bit of work you could have it insert an arbitrary template
or a mode-specific template instead.
