[jed-users] Pasting in multibyte characters from the clipboard

Not sure if I have changed or forgotten something along the way, but pasting
in multibyte characters from the clipboard doesn't work; Jed only receives
the last byte in the sequence such that pasting in e.g. an 'ø' results in
an '<F8>' being pasted in.

I can call the paste() function before hitting the middle mouse button, but
that shouldn't be necessary ..? And using the paste() function also has the
annoying side effect of pasting in some byte sequences, [200~ [201~
before and after the content.

Can I do something about this?

On a related note, functions like LAST_CHAR, LASTKEY, etc. seemingly only
understand basic ascii and not multibyte characters. Would it be a big deal
to make them do so?
