In a fascinating turn of events, John E. Davis just went on and on about:

That font is "not found" on my system (Debian squeeze). I have alerted the
loyalist troops on debian-user as to this situation! <g>. Hopefully they
will reveal the process by means of which I can work back from the
fontname to the deb that can supply it.
