The original install by 32-bit ubuntu 9.04 was

    /lib/libslang.so.2      (link)
    /lib/libslang.so.2.1.3  (updated to 2.1.4, link also updated)
    /usr/include/slang.h

I have now all 3 files together (links adjusted) in each
one of the following:

    /lib
    /usr/lib
    /usr/lib/slang
    /usr/include
    /usr/include/slang

With the original install, configure complained

    unable to find the slang library and header file

Right now, it is not complaining.
