Anything in .jedrc defaces jed

For some strange reason I wasn't getting any email from the list so I
thought this is a dead list. Is fine n ow.

I'm using Debian Etch Stable. I read in the readme provided by Debian
in the /usr/share/docs/jed that they put anything to be loaded with
jed in /etc/jed.d instead of .jedrc. I do not know if this is
concerned with my problem but when I put anything in .jedrc, jed loses
all it's colors and highlighting and becomes a black screen with dark
purply colors and even the emacs keys do not work (The C-x C-c too
doesn't). However the M-f gets the menu so I am able to exit.

WHat do I need to do to make jed behave normally. I want to use M-b
and M-f to backward-delete-word and forward-delete-word respectively
and C-h for backspace. This was replied by John on the comp.editors
group but I face the above problem if I put anything in .jedrc. Can
someone give a solution please?

Also I love the remember.el that I can use with emacs. It's just
great to be able to take notes by jst pressing a key. I have
customised emacs to use remember by pressing 2 function keys. Very
nice. Is there a remember mode for jed?

Regards,
mowgli
