Special Chars in xjed on macbook

hi,

I got jed and xjed working on my macbook, by installing it from source.

It worked without problems.

I use xjed with apples xserver from an xterm on a macbook with a german 
keyboard.

In the xterm I can enter the characters [ ]|{} by holding the alt-key 
and pressing 5678.

In xjed that does not work. No char is displayed at all.

With show_key I get for alt 5 key "ESC [ undefined.

Any help is welcome.
